Ustad Bilal Chishty (also known as Dhruv Sangari) is a Sufi, classical and playback vocalist, lyricist, composer, teacher and scholar from Delhi, India. He leads a number of well known bands such as ‘Rooh Sufi Ensemble’, ‘Humble Mystic’ and the US based ‘National Sufi Ensemble’
His formal training in Hindustani classical vocals took place with Smt. Shahana Bannerjee, Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan and Ustad Ghulam Sadiq Khan as well as in the tabla by Pt. B.S. Ramanna.
Initiated and nourished with the Sufi tradition in the sacred courtyards of Delhi, Ajmer and Lahore, Bilal went onto learn Qawwali under Ustad Meraj Nizami and subsequently the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khansahab and his brother Ustad Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan.
Popularly known as  ‘Prince of Qawwali’ Dhruv has several popular Bollywood, Television and Coke Studio@MTV tracks to his credit. Having performed in more than 15 countries, he has also recorded a number of hit singles and album collaborations with legends such as Amit Trivedi and Nitin Sawhney.
A regular at well known festivals and venues such as WOMEX, SXSW, Smithsonian, Kennedy Center, HKW Berlin, Louvre Paris, IJF Dubai, Princeton, Kabir Festival, Bhakti Utsav and the Sufi Route headlined by AR Rahman, his work has been frequently covered by the media and press.
Empaneled with the Festivals of India Abroad, and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Dhruv is also founder of ‘Ektara India’, recognized by UN for its contribution to scholarship on Sufi-Bhakti and syncretic themes. Over the last two decades he has taught in a number of schools and universities both within India and overseas. Currently he is serving as co- founder/director at the Naadvistaar Foundation for music as well as independent consultant for Intangible Cultural Heritage with the UNESCO.
