Sheikh Ismail Hakki Cimen is a Sheikh in the Jerrahi Sufi lineage, a Hafiz of the Holy Qur’an, and an accomplished musician renowned for his mastery of the ney (reed flute) and the oud (oriental lute). Through music, sacred poetry, and chant, he brings the rich spiritual heritage of the Ottoman Sufi tradition to audiences around the world.

A specialist in the theory of makams (the classical modal system of Turkish music), Sheikh Ismail is particularly known for his moving interpretations of ilahis (Sufi hymns), duraks, and kasides—poetic and musical forms central to the Ottoman spiritual tradition. His performances combine technical mastery with deep spiritual expression, creating a powerful and contemplative experience.

Born in Turkey, Sheikh Ismail has also lived in the United States and Brazil. For more than 30 years, he has been invited to perform, lecture, and lead workshops on Sufism, sacred music, and the Ottoman musical tradition at universities, cultural institutions, and spiritual gatherings throughout the world.
